How did you get interested in medicine?
I went to college to be a journalist and switched majors after I took a science class in my first year! It was full steam ahead from there.
What made you decide to become an REI?
After college, I was at John Hopkins University completing a Masters degree and ended up in a research lab investigating molecular markers of IVF in the mouse model. This was in the early 2000’s. It was novel and exciting. I spent 2 years doing IVF on mice, which led to several research publications and then a successful application to medical school. From entry into medical school, I knew I would be an OBGYN with the hopes of matching in REI.
What topics/areas of interest are you particularly passionate about?
I’m most interested in helping couples and patients build their families, in whatever means it takes: whether autologous IVF or donor egg or donor sperm or gestational surrogate. There is nothing that brings more joy than a new baby.
How do you like to spend your free time?
I have a very busy personal life. I have 4 kids (ages 4-13) and a husband who is a busy CT Anesthesiologist. We call our household “controlled chaos”. We like to travel, go to the beach, sports games (go Mets/ Knicks/ Syracuse!). We are never resting or just relaxing!
Anything else you want prospective patients to know about you?
I am a very down to earth and relatable physician. I have a very easy time connecting with patients and their families.
Most of practice is referral based from community doctors or prior patients and I think that says a lot.
