Get to Know Dr. Cary Dicken, REI at RMANY - Long Island
Dr. Cary Dicken joined RMA of New York - Long Island in Fall 2020. She previously served as the Associated Medical Director of the Sher Institute for Reproductive Medicine in New York City. Dr. Dicken is board certified in both Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility. She is consistently recognized by her peers and patients as an outstanding and compassionate physician. She is proud to be a reproductive endocrinologist and loves spending her days helping individuals and couples create the families they want.
How did you get interested in medicine?
The sciences were always my strength in school and I believed that I could understand and practice medicine well. I also have been always been “that person” that my friends and family turn to when they need to vent or advice, so I thought being a good listener and connecting with others would help me be a compassionate doctor.
What made you decide to become an REI?
I knew nothing about REI or fertility treatment when I first began medical school. I remember being in a lecture during my second year and learning about infertility and the testing and treatment options. I thought it was the most interesting area of medicine that existed. I also thought how could there be anything better than helping individuals to conceive? It’s an amazing field and I still feel the same way 20+ years later.
What topics/areas of interest are you particularly passionate about?
I am most interested in conditions like endometriosis and PCOS that can impact egg quality and therefore make achieving pregnancy challenging. I also enjoy the challenge of assisting women with a diminished ovarian reserve and coming up with strategies to try and increase their egg yield with treatment. Finally, I am an advocate of oocyte cryopreservation and am passionate about educating young women about this option to preserve their fertility so they have more options to achieve pregnancy in the future.
How do you like to spend your free time?
I love to play tennis and play at least once a week. My husband and I have two young children and a very energetic puppy. They occupy the majority of my free time. As a family we love to travel and look forward to teaching our children about cultures and lifestyles different from our own on Long Island.
Anything else you want prospective patients to know about you?
I grew up on Long Island and am really thrilled to be part of RMA of NY - Long Island. It’s great to assist women/couples from my community.
